Can Porcelain Match the Complexities of Natural Teeth?

Can Porcelain Match the Complexities of Natural Teeth?

The answer is YES!

See the beautiful smile makeover with porcelain veneers below.  You do not really see the porcelain veneers because the color and blend with the natural dentition looks so natural.  What you see is a beautiful smile!

How about natural teeth with restorations?  A crown was needed on the tooth front tooth shown in the x-ray below.  There is evidence of a vertical fracture within the crown of the tooth, root canal treatment, extensive restorations, and re current decal.  we selected an all-porcelain crown for a natural looking, strong and beautiful restoration.

Extensive restorations present as well as periodontal disease can lead to difficult color match!

Sometimes Adult Teeth Develop Too Small, What Then?

Sometimes Adult Teeth Develop Too Small, What Then?

Our patient did not like the gaps between her teeth or the color!

Our patient did not like the gaps between her teeth or the color!

When there are the right number of teeth but there are several gaps between the teeth, it may be because the teeth are just abnormally small.  This can really detract from the aesthetics of a smile!  Tiny teeth with gaps are very cute in little kids – not so much in an adult smile!  Dentists will probably tell you that it is helpful for there to be gaps between a child’s baby teeth to allow for better alignment of the larger adult teeth as they come in.  When a child’s teeth are all neatly lined up it usually means that there will be crowding problems when the adult teeth erupt.

There are several options to correct small teeth!

  • Braces can bring the teeth closer together but this may interfere with the occlusion or may even be less esthetic if the teeth are really small
  • Porcelain veneers can be used to make teeth appear longer or wider as needed. This approach can be very conservative and can ‘instantly’ change a smile
  • Bonded restorations or direct veneers can be completed where a dentist adds tooth colored composite material to the front and sides of the teeth as needed to achieve the appropriate size
  • All porcelain crowns may be needed if the lingual surfaces of the teeth also need to be restored for ideal function or aesthetics.
  • In some cases extra teeth are incorporated into the smile with implants or a removable partial denture.
  • Sometimes a combination of the above treatments is the best option.

Porcelain Veneers – Are They Right For You?

Porcelain Veneers – Are They Right For You?

A thorough analysis of the patient goals and function will have to be completed before deciding if porcelain veneers, crowns, orthodontics or a combination is the best option to improve this smile!

Porcelain Veneers are not the answer to every cosmetic dental problem, but they are beautiful, conservative and perfect for many situations such as:

  • Discolored teeth
  • Chipped or worn teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Misaligned teeth and more!

This small fracture could be restored with direct bonding of a tooth colored material or a porcelain veneer.

Are your teeth chipped, cracked, or malformed? Were you born with naturally darker enamel that makes getting your picture taken a nightmare? Have your teeth been permanently stained beyond the help of professional teeth-whitening systems? Having a smile that’s misshapen or discolored is less than desirable, and makes it hard to maintain a high level of self-confidence. If your smile can use improvement, porcelain veneers or Lumineers could be right for you -or you may just need direct bonding!  Either way, we will give you the information to help you decide.

Direct bonding is the more conservative option here.

Dr. Gillis and her well-trained staff offer both at our Grand Junction, CO location. Please visit our website www.juliegillisdds.com for further information!

Porcelain veneers and Lumineers for your needs.

Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of porcelain made to fit over existing teeth so they can hide your teeth’s imperfections. These veneers are created to mimic the light-reflecting quality of your natural teeth, which is possible because the porcelain used is of such a high quality. For more information, please visit our website at www.juliegillisdds.com or call our office at (970) 242-3635.  You can also email our office at jgillis@juliegillisdds.com. We would be happy to answer your questions or see you for a complimentary consult!

Porcelain Veneers In Action!

May 16, 2013

Dentist’s love seeing photos of their patients!

One of the nicest compliments we receive is when a patient is so happy with their new smile that they send us smiling photos of themselves  doing fun things!  We recently completed a conservative smile makeover for Sherry that included porcelain veneers and all porcelain crowns.  The porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns replaced a couple very unaesthetic veneers and crowns that were done by other dentists that Sherry was not happy with.  Sherry is the lovely blond woman in these photographs.

My new porcelain veneers have given memy smile back!

Tears came to her eyes when she looked at the porcelain veneers the first time and she noted, “Thank you so much.  You have finally given me my smile back!”
