How much toothpaste is enough?
Who do you believewhen it comes to how much toothpaste is the right amount?
Should you believe the toothpaste manufacturers who show photos with a delightfully big swirl of toothpaste?
Should you believe your dentist, hygienist, or physician? See small dab above!
Most toothpastes contain a foaming and abrasive agent, a surfactant that helps lift food and crud off of your teeth and gums, a flavoring agent that makes your mouth smell clean and products that help strengthen the surface of the tooth. A small amount goes a long way!
Excess toothpaste can cause excessive foaming and the desire to finish quickly and spit! When the goal is to polish all surfaces of every tooth.
Children are especially sensitive to the use of excessive toothpaste and may feel they are done brushing because their whole mouth is foamy. When you are brushing your child’s teeth, use an even smaller amount of toothpaste – just enough to coat the bristles. You will be able to brush longer without the gagging that sometimes happens with too much paste. And remember that kids cannot spit well and may be swallowing too much fluoride. If you have any questions about toothpaste or any dental product, please call our office. (970) 242 3635 We love to help!
You can clean teeth really well with just a toothbrush and water. Toothpaste is like the soap that helps get our dishes clean. If you dunk a dish in soapy water it will get slightly cleaner than a dunk in plain water – BUT – you still have to scrub it to get it clean!
Plus the active ingredients in toothpastes provide benefits that include remineralization of teeth, anticavity, antigingivitis, sensitivity relief, whitening,
anti-tartar, and a breath freshening taste! What’s not FUN about that?
